Óscar Castilla C. is an investigative reporter from Perú. He is executive director of Ojo Público. OjoPúblico was founded in 2014 in Lima as an investigative journalism association. Its mission is to promote transparency, accountability, and access to public information. The association runs an investigative unit covering organized crime and corruption, and provides training for journalists on a variety of tools and applications. OjoPublico was created by veteran journalists from El Comercio, Peru's leading newspaper, who wanted an independent digital base. Castilla is a journalist specialized in cases of organized crime, corruption and security for 15 years. His investigations have been recognized nationally and internationally. The latest, "From Madre de Dios to Switzerland: The paths of illegal gold", was included in the documentary "Dirty Gold, a global research," premiered in Europe. Panelist at the Eighth Global Investigative Journalism Conference (GIJC) in 2013 and fellow of Fundación García Márquez de Nuevo Periodismo Iberoamericano (FNPI) in 2010. He was a staff member of the Investigative Unit of El Comercio newspaper from 2008 to 2014. Co-founder of the HacksHackers Lima chapter, an organization that promotes partnership between journalists and programmers. He currently writes for Poder Magazine. He is also a co-founder of Hacks/Hackers Lima, the chapter of this organization having opened on May 2014.
