Brazilian election maps

Brazilian election maps

Organisation: G1 (Brazil)

Publication Date: 03/10/2017

The map gathers information about the election in the 5,568 Brazilian cities. But not just that. It also leads to maps of electoral zones in 53 cities - the largest ones in the country. The general map displays data from the first placed candidates and permits that readers can access the full voting pages, with all the details of each city. The maps of electoral zones reveal a geography of the voting in every part of the city. This is a complete X-ray of the results of the 2016 municipal election in Brazil.

What makes this project innovative? What was its impact?

The map is able to gather data from each city, providing summarized information from the elections in the 5,568 Brazilian cities. The highlight are the maps of electoral zones. No other media outlet has the geographical division of so many cities. Some maps were designed exclusively - and even the official bodies do not have such a file. This allows more detailed analyzes of the elections in each location. The maps, especially the electoral zone ones, are unique and became an important tool to read the results.
