Breaking Hoaxes

Breaking Hoaxes

Description

Our project is aimed at newsroom's editors and focuses on two premises: - How to access and report accurate information in moments of crisis. - How to debunk misinformation almost in real time. Our webapp collects information from several sources: social networks, web pages, institutional press releases... And categorizes it as info from official sources, reliable sources or sources on the ground. We index all that information on a database, making it available for quicks searches: any moment new data comes up from unknown sources our user can check in seconds if that information has been already confirmed by our trusted sources, allowing to check that information against dozens or even hundreds of different sources. We also allow the user to filter that information by source type (official, reliable...) or by the source itself. But we also debunk fake information! Maldito Bulo, one of our brands, is the leader and reference in debunking in Spain. In fact, we're the only representatives from Spain at the European Comission's High-Level Expert Group and experts on fact-checking. During this kind of events we work in parallel debunking misinformation and publishing it using our web page and Chrome extensions, but sometimes some of this misinformation is aired because the editor doesn't have access to the debunk at that moment. That tab "Bulos" shows all the information that the Maldita Team have debunked during the event. And the searches show our debunks first, if any found, so the user knows in a second that that info has been debunked. As new debunks come in, a browser notification is shown warning the user about it. We also allow the user to send us data (using the "Check" tab) so we can verify it while he/she's reporting other trusted data.

Technologies used for this project:

PHP, Symfony framework, MYSQL. For the scrapping, Python scripts.

Congratulations for the prize. I see that the source code has dissapeared. Would you publish it again?
