Follow the hurricane !
Organisation: One World (Netherlands)
Publication Date: 04/07/2015
DescriptionExtreme is the new normal. According to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) we need to prepare for more extreme weather worldwide. One World has travelled to The Philippines to see what it means in practice. In 2013 the group of islands got struck by typhoon Haiyan, one of the strongest typhoons ever. Another strong one followed in december 2014; typhoon Hagupit. The East coast of The US is also a regular victim to hurricanes, Katrina being memorable to this day. "Follow the hurricane" is an interactive map that allows to explore the size of tropical cyclones by dragging the circles around the map and comparing them to sizes of places that are nearer to us. We see pictures of just how devastating a tropical cyclone can be. This way we also get an idea on just how big it can get.
