Description

This project created by all members of Sina News Lab is a great example of convergence journalism, which focus on the sparring partners that usually are unknown to the public and are overshadowed by athletes who actually win medals.Trying to draw audiences' attention to these sparring partners, this project adopts several storytelling methods, including data visualization, feature writing, digital album, original song and music video, and combines them altogether to better observe the glorious yet bitter lives of sparring partners.

What makes this project innovative? What was its impact?

There are three major innovative features of this project: 1)This project sets a critical perspective on heroes behind medals, instead of the common narratives focusing on winners in China's sports-related reporting. 2)This project adopts multiple methods to support the main theme, during which process data visualization/original song/depth interview/feature writing are seamlessly converged. 3)Considering the development and change of audiences' reading habit, this project adopts responsive design for both PC and mobile users. Because of all these characteristics, this project has drawn major audiences' attention and owned more than 1.8 million views on Weibo.

Technologies used for this project:

In order to make this project, team members have first used Python and Excel to cleaning original data, and then adopted programming languages like HTML5/CSS3 and JavaScript to build the web page for presentation, during which several JS libraries are used, such as Echarts.js and Swiper.js. This project has also used softwares like Adobe Audition and Premiere to make original audio/video.
