Researchers bet on mass medication to wipe out malaria in L Victoria Region

Malaria kills more than 20,000 people in Kenya every year and children remain the most affected individuals. Worse, is the fact that more half of the country (25 million people) is at risk of malaria. The disease has over the decades put a strain to the already frail health ministry. Millions of dollars are directed towards various projects that are meant with dealing with the infectious disease every year yet gains made to curb the spread of the diseases remain minimal. This project explored the first of a kind project being implemented around Lake Victoria, the worst affected area in Kenya, which aims at eradicating mosquitoes. The researchers through phases are conducting mass medication in an effort to wipe out the disease. If the project is successful, this means that the scientists will implement similar projects in other area that remain affected by Malaria. This project highlights the effort being made by some of the best world malaria experts in combating the scourge and highlights the importance of collaborative efforts by research institutes and experts.
