Deaths at the Borders of Southern Europe
Organisation: Dutch Data Design (Netherlands)
Publication Date: 02/17/2016
DescriptionThe Deaths at the Borders Database is the first collection of official, stateproduced evidence on people who died while attempting to reach southern EU countries from the Balkans, the Middle East, and North & West Africa, and whose bodies were found in or brought to Europe. To make the numbers tangible every dead migrant, documented by local authorities in the period 1/1/1990 to 31/12/2013, is represented by one dot in the visualization. Readers can watch the shifting migration patterns by playing an animation or discover interactively in more detail who the victims are.
