What makes this project innovative? What was its impact?El Español has analyzed all the data on Airbnb in Madrid and Barcelona (October 2, 2015). The information is available in “Inside Airbnb”. This website collects and displays data on the platform in cities around the world. In recent years, this form of rent has raised hackles among neighbors and hoteliers, especially in Barcelona. We have focused on analyzing the situation of this market. To study how it has affected this type of lease, we have also analyzed the number of hotels and their geographical location. The result of crossing these data with the offer of Airbnb has been the realization that both the hotels and the rental housing is concentrated in the same areas. Also, we wanted to provide purely financial view of Airbnb. This platform, which began as a small business among friends, is financed by large venture capital funds and has become one of the most promising technology companies. The comparison between the data market capitalization of the largest hotel companies and private assessment shows that Airbnb is already at the same level.
