Visualisations and insights on commuting behaviour in Germany.

What makes this project innovative? What was its impact?

Our main goal was to show the paths of millions of people from home to work. Germany has an increasing number of people who live far away from their workplace. Our Datavizualisation was the first piece of a series of articles looking deeper on the phenomenon. On top of showing the travel flows for Germany we provide a the commuting patterns in Germany's major metro areas with a more detailed map and interactive maps with commuter data insights. Our Design focus was: think mobile first!

Technologies used for this project:

We crunched the flow data with R and Python. To find patterns we use QGIS. Webdevelopment: Javascript, Canvas, D3
